Yes the ever debated RAM question, the site states that it has 192mb or ram (on t-mobile) and chances are that yes, we got stuck with the retarded older brother of the magics... That being said, one thing I have to tell myself is even though my MT3G  will have less RAM than the hero, you also have to look at how much more RAM will be required to keep the sense UI going, its probably going to come out pretty even

Aphex although you probably right that its going to take a lot more power to run the SenseUI, I cant see it as almost 100 MB more.

I see this as another case of US getting the shaft..... and to be honest, US consumers deserve it.

Until a concerted effort is made to inform the carriers that we aren't happy with thier "system" then we get what we deserve.

Up until the 3G rollout, I bought my phones on ebay from overseas. Case in point my Nokia 6282, GREAT phone... got it from an Ebay seller in Londay. Paid $75 U.S. and it was better than ANY phone T-Mobile carrier. Unfortunately cant use any 3G phones from Europe as TMo only got the leftover military network (read as 1700) at the auction and so until they start using thier 2100 no European phones for us.

Hmmmmmmm wonder if that was intentional *wink wink* ya think?

Either way, since theyve already said Hero isnt coming to TMo US Im gonna have to go for the MT3G until something nicer comes along.

Ive got my precious G1 now and although I LOVE IT.... the size and weight is really starting to irritate me.

Here's my take on Hero-

Hero has practically the same hardware as the MyTouch. Maybe a larger RAM size  (yet to be confirmed). Loading up the senseUI on the same hardware does not make any sense to me. It's going to take up more CPU cycles and clog up other apps. The reason why iphone has a policy of one app at a time is to accomodate the snappy UI.

I would pick smooth running apps over an eye candy UI.

AKH, not exactly.

First of all, the RAM size is 288 MiB... thats confirmed.

Secondly, a new UI if built from the ground up can increase speed by itself. Lets say HTC found a way to optimize the valdik VM (virtual machine---its  waht runs JAVA)... and incorporated that into thier code. Well then.... that alone may increase the"snappiness" of a device.

Now Im not saying thats what happened, Im just explaining that what you said isnt entirely accurate.

Thirdly, Apple didnt allow mutli-tasking as its commonly known because..... thier battery life sucked. Multi-tasking would have given the iPhone a total of 3 hours before it died... nothing to do with snappiness, thats evident by just seeing how many times thier apps crash. Believe me, theyre jonesing for multi-tasking over at Apple, and I guarantee a future version of the iPhone will have it.

Im just upset the MT3G was ripped off with its RAM.... BASTARDS!

Good points ..
But i seriously doubt whether HTC has the expertise to tweak the VM. I would trust Google to do it but not HTC.
Any tweaks they did to get senseUI to work probably is going to take up more CPU cycles rather than reduce the number of cycles consumed to maintain the UI.
More CPU cycles comsumed for UI= Sluggish device + shorter battery life.

You might re-think "space for aps" it's not 288mb it's more like 192mb.

It most certainly is Android based, just because it has a different UI on top of it, does not make it non-android

Re: Hero vs myTouch

to me it's basically the same phone but skinnier / w/out qwerty / same processor / still no 3.5mm jack / same battery life / same camera

iphone 3Gs got an newer more powerful processor and a digital compass in their GPS mode

I think it's time for android to step up...

both Magic/Mytouch ... and Hero are not upgrades for G1

G1 will still rock! b/c of it's full kb and being the first android phone =)

Just about everyone can agree, the Hero is a significantly better piece of hardware than the MT. Too bad it's a moot point, imported versions won't run on the US 3G network, and the only unit to hit the FCC looks like an AT&T spectrum. Lets hope Tmo-US has something else in up their sleeves for later this year. I'm out of contract and need a decent phone. I don't think the MyTouch fits the bill...
