if you are still signed up for the tmobile hotpost service you were using for you laptop, yes, you can use it at starbucks.
tmob has a free roaming agreement with att(i think it came as part of the lawsuit against starbucks/att for breaking contract or something like that)
go to starbucks, fire up the browser, choose the roaming (if i remember it's in the top right corner) , and sign in with ur tmob hotspot username and password.

The catch is that 4/5 five times, the G1 connects to the at&t and you cannot get of T-Mo's side. Clicking on "T-Mobile Customers" (top, tight side) brings you to a log-in screen which doesn't want to work with the G1. I almost always need to reboot my phone several trimes before it actually connects to "T-MOHS", which is their side. Then again, I have encountered times when even connected to T-MOHS, I would still wind up at the at&t screen where it is asking top log-in.
HotSpot wise... are you sure that a G1 account entitles you to unlimited HotSpot access? I read over here that this was changed. I also checked through my T-Mo account info on-line and nowhere did I find information telling me that my G1 account gives me unlimited HotSpot access.
Can a T-Mo rep or moderator advise if a G1 account includes HotSpot access?
