We are aware some T-Mobile G1 and T-Mobile myTouch 3G customers have received an over-the-air update. It was sent to a small, controlled pilot and is not yet available to all customers. The update (DMD64) is intended to improve the phone's call performance and is NOT Éclair.
We will post updates to these Forums with more information when the software upgrade is available to all T-Mobile G1 and T-Mobile myTouch 3G customers.

Gang, you may wish to read the first post in this thread... I think that is the update you all got (and sadly, not me who really needs it to get reception in my house, even with the "addition of a new cell tower in your area" (texted to me via TMo)).
Caton, thanks for the update and clarification.
Best,
Robert

What about those that don't have G1 data plan? Can wifi give us update?
I suspect not. (In my understanding of the situation) TMo will be pushing the updates based on phone type. The phones tagged with the G1 data plan will thus get it. If you dont have a G1 data plan, then your phone is simply "a phone" and not a G1 to their computers.
That's my guess anyway.

Robert

I suppose a more relevant set of questions is:
When should we be expecting the next substantial update for the G1? Will there be continued "big" updates for the G1?
I know one of the potential problems with pushing big updates out to the G1 is limited disk space on the device. Are we waiting for the update until the Google team has perfected an extension that allows apps to be stored and run from the SD card?

The OTA update yesterday bricked my phone. I was in a store for over an hour this morning and they tried a master reset several times, but it continues to hang up on the T-Mobile G1 screen. I have been directed to contact HTC and Google, and keep getting the runaround. My phone was broken by the update, and I do not feel I should have to pay to get a replacement. How can you assist me?

Hi ascap,
If by "you" you mean your fellow G1 User Community, then I would suggest reading up on how to reset your phone to factory using the Android G1 ROM images. Myself and others discuss that various places on the forums. It WILL wipe your phone (but not your memory card or Google Contacts or Google Email), so you will have to re-install any apps you added, as well as will lose chat history and such.
If you are interested in proceeding that route (and you cannot find the appropriate thread(s) with instructions), let us know and we'll point those threads out to you.
Best,
Robert
