To change which groups sync:
Open contacts Menu > Edit sync groups > Sync all contacts (uncheck)
Open contacts Menu > Edit sync groups > My contacts (check)
Repeat for all groups you want t o sync. I sync My contacts and a couple business-related folders. Works very well. I wasn't a fan of Google Contacts, but once I started using the service, I think it's great.
Here is a hint...If you are just establishing your contacts, or have a manageable list, ensure you enter your contacts as Lastname Firstname with no comma, like this: Smith John. If you text your contacts, the comma will force two text messages to be sent.
Ensure you enter your contact phone number as 1-555-555-5555. There have been issues with other formats (555.555.5555 and (555)555-5555 formats seem to cause problems with the display of the incoming caller's contact info.)
If you have work contacts, because right now the Google Contacts on the phone doesn't use the Company field, or allow you to search using company field, you may want to enter some contacts as Acme: Smith John. In this way you could search for Acme employees. But, keep filling out the Company slot if you enter your contacts through the Web interface. I have a feeling the Company field will eventually make it to the phone for searching.
