Sidekick info (Microsoft mess up)

So yeah..

I would like to know what discounts are T-mobile going to give on a new Phone. I am probably going to move to the Moto Cliq, But I and other sidekick users should get a full phone discount not just a % of it..  (Microsoft should pay for it)

hmm  Roz Ho haven't you her of BACKUP...?

 Quoting Hiptop3

"Currently the rumor with the most weight is as follows:

Microsoft was upgrading their SAN (Storage Area Network aka the thing that stores all your data) and had hired Hitachi to come in and do it for them. Typically in an upgrade like this, you are expected to make backups of your SAN before the upgrade happens. Microsoft failed to make these backups for some reason. We’re not sure if it was because of the amount of data that would be required, if they didn’t have time to do it, or if they simply forgot. Regardless of why, Microsoft should know better. So Hitachi worked on upgrading the SAN and something went wrong, resulting in it’s destruction. Currently the plan is to try to get the devices that still have personal data on them to sync back to the servers and at least keep the data that users have on their device saved.  "

WOW.

Microsoft Do you understand that you are making yourself and T-mobile loose MONEY????

Also with me being a Sidekick owner I feel betrayed by Microsoft not T-mobile.

This outage I was all fine about at first but now it is just to much. We sidekick owners rely on Danger witch is now owned by Micro to keep are data stored on a secure server and that is why us users never backed up are data. I mean the sidekick does not even have a mass contact save Option. The user has to save them one by one. If I do stay with the sidekick I would like to see Options to save all on SD becuase a SIM can only hold around 250..

I have lost business and meetings from this outage and I am not happy.

So to everyone

It is not T-mobiles Fault so do not blame them. There customer service has been AWESOME

Also Danger and Microsoft do not comunicate with T-mobile as much that is why there is not much info.

"I wonder if we call Microsoft and bug them will they give us any info, they will probably say u have to call t-mobile. Well T-mobile is not the one who messed up,.they do not UPDATE THE SAN....."

yes!!!  i totally agreed with siber54 about its all microsoft's own fault  and they didn't even bother  to  give T-Mobile  the  update they were going to do  in advance  if  microsoft  didnt buy Danger out  it wouldve been a totally diffrent story  and i agree  it should be Microsoft  that should be  giving  credits  of a few months  worth of data  or a new mobile not T-mobile   and i feel sorry  how the employees of T-mobile must be going thru  with the cs  and  sidekicks customers  this is a mess up that should never had happened  we  and T-mobile  should  be pissed  at microsoft  for this  crap :smileymad:

Re: Sidekick info (Microsoft mess up)

I'm sure a majority of us are satisfied customers of tmobile, otherwise we wouldn't have purchased the sidekick. I love tmobile and their service. I'm just slightly irritated by the situation and the fact that to my knowledge, there was no major attempt to communicate this epic problem to everyone that isn't up to date with browsing forums, watching the news on tv, or whatever other way this notice was sent out.

Well if there is a data outage, how the hell would they communicate this so called epic problem to you ??   snail mail ?  smoke signals ?   your bill ?   lol       feeble

Re: Sidekick info (Microsoft mess up)

I would also just like to point out that while years ago when the Sidekick was introduced, it was fairly sophisticated for the average user to purchase. However, since then, rich data devices have far, FAR surpassed the sidekick- iphone, Google's new phone etc. Sidekick has added a few new ring tones but mostly, it has remained fairly simple in it's function. So, all we ask is for those fairly simple functions to FUNCTION. I want my email to be sent and received and my contacts to be stored, as well as the simple and poor quality pictures and the notes. They cannot even do that. Pathetic...

are/our, witch/which, their/there = all very different words.

Just saying.

If you want Microsoft, Tmobile, or any reputable party responsible here to hear you, it might be wise to make sense first.

Re: Sidekick info (Microsoft mess up)

brand1ish, sorry for the confusion as i neglected to mention that my sidekick failed yesterday. to my knowledge the tmobile network was working perfectly fine for about half a week? so no i don't expect them to send smoke signals, snail mail, or with my bill. And imo the servers with all of our data on it crashing with no backup qualifies as an epic problem wouldn't you?

Your kidding, Redrum1225.... right?! Your ass would lose in court if you even thought about suing the companies. I just think that everyone should just stop **bleep** about this! I'm not trying to pick a fight or start anything. I just think that just because your sidekick doesn't work you go & complain about this thread after thread. I mean yeah, i just got a LX for my birthday and it doesn't work. So i just went back to my Sidekick II and it works fine. Maybe its just some models that don't work or just where you happen to live. idk i don't work for t-mobile. But all i'm saying is that when there was no prob you people were fine. Now that there is, your totally turning your back on something that some of you have been using for years....

i'm planning on taking legal action against microsoft, danger, and/or t-mobile. this incompetence and inconvenience is beyond unbearable at this point.  i will make a point to make sure no one i know ever signs with t-mobile.  i'll try my best to make my friends leave t-mobile if they already have the misfortune of being a tmobile customer.

  • T-mobile is not the one to blame here.
  • T-mobile has been trying to help as much as they can.
  • T-mobile does not run the Danger/Microsoft servers.
  • Danger/Microsoft should release more Info then what they are now.
  • T-mobile didn't have to give you a credit for 1 month of service but they did.
  • Danger/Microsoft are working on the problem day and night in hoping they get the service back with all lost data

I am upset just like most are. I am going to try and ride this out a bit more.

And yes, I also wish they had a way of notifying users.

Nice.

When data services are back I hope you enjoy the new LX. It is nice to see some people who can understand problems do happen.

make sure you back up all data.

Re: Sidekick info (Microsoft mess up)

As a Sidekick owner since 2004 as many of the loyal Sidekick owners, I am devastated.  The incredible thing about Sk's were that they were backed up and supposedly secured.  Well, hard facts for all of us is - nothing is secured.period.  With it close to being confirmed that if we re-set our devices during this time (I did before I had any idea there was even a problem - just a freak coincidence) we are going to lose it all.  Like most - I can even begin to tell you what I've lost.  Over 1000 contacts, vendors, clients, friends, businesses, restaurants, hotel, fashion, music, sports personal and private info - that I kept no where else because of the "secure-ness" of the tmobile, danger, microsoft back up systems.

As a public relations professional - it will be curious to see what tmobile will do to keep their customer base.  Because right now I dont know what I want to do.  Because I have to start from scratch on my contacts (there is NO recovering what I have lost) there is no reason to stay with Tmobile and I'm not sure I want to - granted they have been great though this nightmare but it happend on their watch.  Tmobile/Danger/Microsoft have to figure this out quickly because this is going to become a serious threat to the existance of the SideKick device.  My gut is I dont want it anymore, even though I absolutely loved what it could do for me  - not without the access to years of my personal and professional contacts.

I'm going to wait a few days before I contact them with my decision - I'm still hopeful they can pull this together but with the lastest posting from their leadership hope is fading - like my loyalty - fast.

Data service does not include calling/texting. Those were never effected,so your argument of them not having a way of sending out info to all sidekick users is invalid.

Yes and no. The rep I spoke to last night did the equivalent of staring incredulously over the phone when I said a month's credit wasn't enough for the lost data, et al. Though my polite description of where whatever guy who made that decision (thinking it would suffice)'s head is... had her laughing pretty hard.

Just say someone's head is a dark, closed off from the world, occasionally foul smelling place. It works wonders to lighten the mood. ;D

Re: Sidekick info (Microsoft mess up)

TMobile had plenty of ways to contact users.  They have our emails, and a land line number.  I have 3 lines; 2 belong to Sidekicks.  We could've been easily informed.  They certainly mange to email my bill to me.  Why couldn't they have emailed this info?  My daughter lost 4 years of info on her phone.  She tried to find answers, but until she went to a store - after she had already tried powering down - that's when she found out.  While the failure wasn't TMobile's fault, the lack of communication definitely was!

Re: Sidekick info (Microsoft mess up)

T-mobile definitely shares in the responsibility.  As savvy as it's Sidekick customers are (were), we would have not powered down, reset, unplugged, etc.  If we had known AS SOON as a problem occurred.  Other companies will study how this was not handled correctly by communication companies that should have known better how to communicate.

Fyi, I just lost an account to a competitor because something I sent last week didn't get to the client I was bidding on in time and I can't even email an apology because I don't have clients email address anymore.  How much did it cost me T-mobile / Danger / Microsoft, you ask??  You don't want to know...

i don't think they are going to ask how much it cost you. they should be busy telling you to back up your data once and awhile and don't use a sidekick for a business device. who seriously uses a sidekick for business purposes? i didn't know there were so many pre-teen business owners
