Okay. I have the current set up. And now I have a blue dot instead of an E. Does this mean I have GPRS?

All you should have to do is set the network settings for T-Mobile's data plan. See the first post in this thread...

I'm already aware that you can unlock your iPhone so that you can switch it to another service provider.  I plan on doing that, but first I need to know if performing an update on the iPhone notifies AT&T that your phone is unlocked and relock it after the update is complete.  If this is the case can I still use the existing unlocking software to unlock the phone again?

i assume the answer is no. You update thru iTune which is controlled by Apple. Unless they share information secretly undertable, which i don't c how anyway.

I'm not a mod or anything but I do have a few answers to some questions that were asked.

An iPhone 3g has a true GPS chipset will allow it to use realtime turn by turn navigation. The 2g doesn't have that.

So if you want to use the iPhone navigation, get a 3g, if not get a 2g.

When you update your iPhone to whatever firmware, AT&T does not get notified. There is also a trick to this.

It is recommended that you back up your phone first when it asks you to.

But when you restore to a different firmware in iTunes, hold the shift key and if you have the option of restoring to whatever firmware that you have previously downloaded.

And lastly, someone posted that they were gonna buy a $99 3g Iphone. The only way to get that is that you have to qualify for it and get a new contract with AT&T. You cannot just go and buy the phone for $99!

That is true, you can't just buy an iPhone for $99, but as long as you keep the phone for MORE than 30 days with AT&T you just have to pay the ETF of $175 ish. So in the end, you will have paid $275. I did this and it was WAY worth it because I pay $89/mo for unlimited minutes for 2 phones on a family plan. Whereas I was paying $150/mo just for one iphone with AT&T. My wife and I both have an iPhone with T-Mobile. They are updated to the new OS 3.0 and are "soft" unlocked to use T-Mobile. So I made up the difference of the ETF in about 2 months with our new family plan.

There's an easier method for getting the settings!

Call T-mobile's tech support and have them "send" your the settings for pictures, mms and the internet.

Press "accept" to accept each message then enter access code (which is the last 4 digits of your phone number) and voila!

Settings are done automatically!

Also, ATT's 3G is somewhat incompatible with T-mobile's version but it's relatively OK since the iPhone has Wifi for online access!

@osi. Nope for voice all you need is jailbroken+unlocked your all set. For data you might a few problems every so offten and MMS seem to be hit or miss. good luck.

Just got an iPhone 3GS.  I'm currently using BB Data Plan and it seems to work fine.  I'm using wap.voicestream.com as my APN, no username or pass.  I'm wondering if I should switch the data plan though since this one is meant for BB phones.

Oh ooooops, I didn't realize!  Well BB Data Plan seems good so far so yeah, I'll keep it.  It's 25 a month.  I tried following the instructions by Kyle and under my services, I only get 2 options and one is the same price as my BB plan, and the other includes unlimited text, which I already have with my family plan.  BB plan works so I'm sticking with it.

Okay, so question since you have a BB like I do. (Or for anyone)

So using the BB unlimited web and messages and all on my 3G, I won't get over charged or anything for using the BB plan?  3g is set to off and I can use wifi too plus I have a little "E" in the corner of my screen.  I have flex pay.
