How to Restore Your Sidekick Contacts
You must have an active Sidekick Data plan for the below steps to work. If you have changed your data plan to a different device, you will need to change it back. * Thanks bellamy
Exporting Contacts
1. Log in to My T-Mobile
2. Navigate to Restore your contacts
Note: If you have changed devices, you will need to select a Sidekick device for the option to restore your contacts to appear.
3. On the Content Recovery Landing Page select download contacts.
4. Wait for the File Download box to appear.
Note: If there are a large number of contacts, this may take some time. Your username should reflect the name of the file being downloaded.
5. Save the file to the desktop
6. Once the download is complete, close the box.
7. Your contacts are now downloaded and ready to be imported to your Sidekick.
Importing Contacts to your Sidekick
1. Navigate back to the Sidekick Desktop Interface and Click Import Contacts
2. An address screen will open
3. Click the Browse button and find the original file that was just downloaded.
4. Click Import.
5. Your contacts should now populate on this screen which means they have been downloaded to your Sidekick.
Note: This will only include phone numbers at this time.
6. You should check your Sidekick to ensure contacts have downloaded.

Restoring Content FAQs
Most of my contacts appeared, but I am missing a few. Is there anything I can do?
We have seen some cases where most but not all contact information was recovered. Unfortunately, those missing contacts are not available at this time and we apologize for this inconvenience. Microsoft/Danger continues its efforts to recover data, including any calendar, to-do lists or pictures you have.
What about my to-do lists, calendar entries, notes, and pictures?
Microsoft/Danger continues its efforts to recover pictures, calendar entries and to-do lists, which may be available in the future.
Now that I have my contacts back, what should I do to ensure this does not happen again?
Microsoft/Danger and T-Mobile are in constant contact with regard to the reliability of the Sidekick system and are eager to deliver the level of reliable service that our incredibly loyal customers have become accustomed to. We believe that Microsoft is taking immediate steps to help ensure this does not happen again. Specifically, Microsoft has made changes to improve the overall stability of the Sidekick Service and initiated a more resilient backup process to ensure the integrity of their database backups is maintained.
What if I don’t have a My.T-Mobile account?
No problem. You can register for one and then follow the steps to restore your content.
I downloaded my contacts so why did I get a text message?
You can disregard the text message if you have already retrieved your contacts. We sent a text message to all affected customers to ensure they were aware their data was recovered. It’s possible you retrieved your contacts while we were in the process of sending those messages.
Why did I get an error message when I attempted the download?
Microsoft/Danger is still in the process of recovering some customers’ data. We ask that you continue to check back on My T-Mobile as we expect that they will continue to recover more customer data. If it is determined your contacts cannot be recovered, you will be notified by October 29 along with the $100 Customer Appreciation Card. Once again, we sincerely appreciate your patience.
What about contacts I’ve created since the outage?
Those contacts should remain on your device. You may notice you have some duplicate contacts. Duplicates may be deleted on your device by using the following steps:
To delete a contact:
- Go to Address book
- Select the contact you want to delete
- Select MENU (upper left button)
- Select Discard Contact
If your contacts aren't downloading, you may need to empty your Trash. This will clear any discarded contacts and allow your device to download more.
To Empty Trash:
- Go to Address book
- Select the contact you want to delete
- Select MENU (upper left button)
- Go to and select View
- Select Trash
You should be in your Trash view on your device - Select MENU (upper left button)
- Go to and select Empty Trash
What should I do with the file I’ve downloaded once I’ve completed this process?
If you are on your personal computer and feel your information is secure, it is your decision what to do with the file. As a general rule, it is always safest to permanently delete personal information.
If you are not on your own personal computer, we strongly recommend you delete the file and permanently empty the Recycle Bin or Trash.
What if I am no longer using a Sidekick, can I still get my contacts back?
Yes. If you have changed your data plan to a different device, you will need to change the data plan back to a Sidekick data plan. Follow the steps outlined above to download your contacts in .csv format. If you no longer have a Sidekick device, you do not need to upload the file.
Note: You may need to change your phone on My.T-Mobile to a Sidekick device by clicking on the link that says “not your phone” before you can complete the download steps.
