Re: AIM Issues & Discussion

No the g1 does not send the IM's thru text messages. It is sent thru the data plan. Now if you're using the text IM fowarding from msn and aim or whatever IM then yes they would be using the text plan.

Re: AIM Issues & Discussion

You sure about that, from what i spoke with, with customer rep it is that the AIM and MSN messengers both use the Text plan, so if you have the 25$ data plan with 400 texts aim and msn messages are deducted from there. Now Gtalk does use the data only, they said it is just like the blackberry messenger for blackberrys. I guess this is made to increase rev and get people on the 35$ plan. A rep please correct me if my information is wrong.
It is never as bad as it can be.

This is incorrect.  It has been confirmed on SEVERAL websites that the G1 uses data services for Gtalk, but the AIM/MSN/Yahoo IM applications built into the initial build are all SMS based.  This most likely explains why the Gtalk application works virtually flawlessly, while the others all have issues.
Yup.

Re: AIM Issues & Discussion

I thought the $25 plan was for unlimited data with the unlimited text family plan. I'm so confused and can't stay logged into my chat clients. :robotsad:

Re: AIM Issues & Discussion

yesss, they definetly need to upgrade the AIM...I've had a sidekick ever since it came out and the AIM on the SK is way better compared to the AIM on the G1. You cant put your own icon pics, cant customize your own away messages etc...smh =(

Re: AIM Issues & Discussion

I have worked around this problem. You can hook up a relay to message your AIM clients through the Google talk. Instructions for doing this here:

http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/general-other-im-news/33739-connect-google-talk-aim-msn-yahoo.html

It works great with the G1. You just need to leave yourself signed in on the desktop so it can relay the messages.

No you are incorrect. MSN/AIM/YAHOO have an option where you can UTILIZE the text options and sign in on your phone with just your cell number. They will then forward your messages to TEXT. That will then use the Texting but fortunately they all 3 use the data plan. Please if you have "confirmation" from various sites provide the links then and not just a "i heard and read from various sites". The reason they use the DATA plan is because I took the sim card out and connected wirelessly. When phone booted up the first thing all 4 messengers did was log on. I told someone to send me a message and i received the message just fine. The messengers all worked correctly (still had the little bugs everyone is getting.).  The reason i know it uses the DATA plan is because those 3 messengers can forward to TEXT ONLY if you select that option and sign in with your cellphone number thru the IM on your PC.
If you are also going to provide the site it says "The G1 uses them as text plan", don't provide any blogs as they are only opinion based thoughts and do not confirm anything.

yeah the aim problem is very buggy once i sign on then chat for a while leave the screen, then it shows all buddies are sign off 0 buddies online?? WTH coming from a sidekick user it doesnt have that same integrated aim as the sidekick. The sidekick let u have custom away messages, go in chatrooms put your on icons. PLease update aim make ass good as sidekick thas all i want, aim is one of the most important reason i bought the G1 hope you guys can update it!!!  does anyone know if theres an official g1 cite that google looks at to see problmes? so we can nagg them about it haha

The sidekick had none of these features when it first came out...

Re: AIM Issues & Discussion

Sorry if this was covered already.  I didn't have the time to read through all 4 pages.

Improvements:

-Some type of notification that a buddy has logged on or logged off.  Similar to the SK3 AIM where there would be the audible door opening (log on) and door closing (log off), as well as a visual bubble that popped up saying "[Screen Name] has logged on/off".

Re: AIM Issues & Discussion

I think the aim needs to be more like the sidekick. The fact you cant put on a normal away mssg is rather annoying. The buddy list also takes a long time to load (even when connected to wifi) if you can even get i to load. Most of the time it likes to just sit there and say you have noone online, or it will just continue saying the only people online are the ones when you signed on and not botther telling u about the ones that signed on or off.

Please can we get the sidekick aim on here, or perhaps someone make a application for it ? =)

Re: AIM Issues & Discussion

The following things need an update for AIM asap:

1. Custom Away message

2. The structure of the buddylist

3. A notification of who signs on and who signs off

4. Icon availability

5. The ability to view other people's away without having the need to IM them.

I am very disappointed with the way AIM came out for the G1.

Re: AIM Issues & Discussion

I can't believe that there is all this fuss about AIM, I wasn't aware people still used that crap but to each his own...lol! How about they fix ALL of the Messy's? I can't even leave a status message when I CAN sign on because as soon as I slide the screen down, it returns the status back to "Available"!
