Trying to switch to BlackBerry

I have the original Sidekick LX, although the recent data and sever issues haven't helped, I've grown pretty bored with this phone recently, i would assume mostly because i have had it since I opened my contract in April 2008.

I began to look for a new phone, and the one that has interest me the most is the BlackBerry 8900, which is advertised at $149.99, with the signing of a contract.

But i already have a contract, and the price for me is $409.99, well more then twice the price.

As i said i opened my contract in April 2008, meaning my contract will not expire until April 2010, is there anything i can do other then to wait until April to open a new contract? And if I do that will I have to pay another connection fee, and all the other little things you have to pay for at the begining, or can i renew my contract in April and get the phone for the $149.99 price, or is there anything else i can do other then wait to get it for that price?

Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Trying to switch to BlackBerry

I would call and see what they can do for you. We signed out contract in Oct 08 when I got my sidekick so we are still a year out from a full upgrade. We called today and were able to get the 8900 on both of our lines at the 149 price. It also helped that we havent been getting the 15% military discount for the past 3 years we have been with Tmobile. They were very helpful and understanding.

You may want to hold out a bit for the new 3G BB device to launch and see what happens, they may offer promos to move the 8900 at a higher volume. The 3G Blackberry is coming soon to T-Mobile!

Re: Trying to switch to BlackBerry

When i was in the same dilemma tmobile told me that there was nothing they could do for me not to mention it was our fault they were charging us for the media package that wasnt working properly for 3 months and they wouldnt even give us credit for that! good luck my advise is if you do call in be very nice to the person that answers the phone so they will be more willing to do something for you and try not to hang up and call back too many times or it will count against you if the rep notes your account

Too true, although as a rep myself,I treat even ungateful and rude customers the way I expect to be treated.Because, let's face it we are also consumers and well understand the frustrations.

Call The Tmobile Retention dept threaten to cancel do to the outage and all.  Tell them the only reason you will consider staying is if you get the 2 yr contract price.  They did that for me and split my payments up into 4 mths.

Re: Trying to switch to BlackBerry

Call TMobile...tell them you are a Sidekick customer and that you want to switch to the Blackberry...what can they do for you...tell them you don't want to leave TMobile but don't trust the Sidekick anymore and that you've been greatly inconvenienced by the loss of data, etc and that you're contract is not up until 2010, can they waive that and give you the Blackberry for $149.99. Considering everything we went through with Sidekick (I just switched to the BBerry 8900), ask them how they will accomodate you with what you've been through. If they won't budge ask to be switched to Customer Loyalty. They'll work with you..they did with me...and in the entire month of the outtage I had been back and forth with them on the phone for 15 times...so they have to try and make us happy since we were the ones put out by this Microsoft crap!

Re: Trying to switch to BlackBerry

That is sooo coincidental! I ALSO switched from "SIDEKICK08" to Blackberry 8900 today. I had called and complained that the server problem wiped out all my applications, backgrounds, games, etc. And they weren't willing to pay me for everything I had lost, asking me what did I have..1st rep. Read everyhing I had, 2nd rep. claimed they couldn't recover over 200.00 worth of applications. A nice rep (after I was called a winer) helped me to get my Blackberry. Yet...the apps aren't loaded as yet and I cannot make any calls but receive them (I think). "give it 2 to 24 hours"before you're up and running. So...patiently I await before they changed all of my Sidekick features to Blackberry, with price (in 4 -5 installments) and my being a customer since March08...something(I hope)be be a far cry from Sidekick08.

Re: Trying to switch to BlackBerry

hey i can help you. i have the same problem except im moving to AT&T and getting the bold. if ur contract is more than a year an a half over and u wana cancel it it only cost 100 to cancel then make a new contract with any carrier and go to a autorized dealer such as Fry's electronics and they have deals if u open a brand new acount u can get a 8900 for free. only prob is 36 dollar activation fee. but u dont have to pay 150 u only pay 130 and other fees.
