Greetings!
While I'm eagerly awaiting my G1, I have a question.
I have a typical gmail account, as well as personal domain hosted by Google Apps where I use gmail for that domain. Can the G1 be registered using the Google apps hosted account?
Thanks in advance!

Hi gang,
Bump for this question, please.
I'm a Google Apps user -- GA hosts my business domain's email, calendar, docs, etc.
So, can I use Google Apps email (@mycompany.com) instead of one of my @gmail accounts?

TIA!

I have been researching this issue myself as well. According to the forum thread below, and threads I've read in other places, the answer is YES. I have not personally tested this, but others that have are saying it works fine.

I just got my G1 phone and tried to set it up with a Google Apps Hosted Domain and got an error message. I called Google Apps tech support and was told that I could not use a Google Apps Hosted Domain account with the phone and must use a regular gmail account.
Anyone else have this experience?

I'll have my phone in the morning so we'll see if it works. Sure hope so!

I currently have a Hosted Exchange service for use with my personal domain name email. I've just pre-ordered the new T-Mobile G1 (Android smartphone) and noticed it requires a Gmail address. If I move my personal email over to Google Apps, will that personal domain email work with the G1 as a 'Gmail' address?

Hello Chaz,
Thanks for your message. Google Apps for your domain are fully supported on the G1 Android enabled phone. You should not have a problem.
Thanks for your continued support, and have a great day.
Sincerely,
Alex

That's great, but are you sure? according to this link, personal
domains using google apps work only in the browser, and a @gmail
account must be used to initialize the G1:

Hello Chaz,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, they will work. Google Apps accounts and
Gmail
will be supported equally.
Enjoy the new phone.
Sincerely,
Alex

Not sure why you're doing it that way, is it because you don't want your Hosted Google Apps as your primary account on the device? What you described is how to add it as a secondary account, email only, no contacts or calendar syncing.
When I first turned on the device, I put in my custom domain name which is hosted with Google Apps and it's what I'm syncing with. No issues, no errors, and no POP3/IMAP settings ![]()
If you're using your device already, that means you've initialized it with a different account, probably one that ends with @Gmail? If so, then no, you can't add your Hosted Google Apps account as at this time, the device works with only 1 account. You'll need to reinitialize it back to factory settings and start over, adding your Hosted Google Apps login at startup.
If for some reason this isn't working for you, it's not T-Mobile that'll assist, it's Hosted Google Apps support -- only available if you're a paying subscriber.

Mine went right in with my apps hosted account. when it asked me for my gmail account it just punched in me@mydomain.com and my password, it went out and sync'd it fine.
My setup, I do have pop3 access available, I don't know if that's making any difference, but it shouldn't.

Just got off the phone with T-Mobiles PDA support (third time) I finally got someone there to say "It can't be done...yet." I'm returning the phone.
Thats BS. They dont know what they are talking about. I have a Google Apps Domain (going on a year now) and I was able to register it just fine. You have to make sure you enable TALK in the Apps.
Email or PM if you need help.
