With 10 pages of complaints and g1 horror stories...

I think it's safe to say they should have delayed the release to get this right... i know three people that are returning their g1 already, and I'm sure that number is going to be magnified... this phone was obviously rushed, with all the focus going into the software... there are so many annoying little quirks, and tmo/google could have done themselves, and us a favor by getting it right before the release.

Hopefully an OTA is in order!

I love the G1, the things that are working are excellent, and within due time it's potential will be fulfilled, but there's something horribly wrong when I'm tempted to put my sim card back into a sidekick...

i couldnt agree with you anymore!!!

for what works good right now is up to par as expected but i feel it could have been checked by QC to verify its 100% ready for the market with no problems.

if i was tempted to put the sim card back into my sk3 i couldnt cause my screen is broken wich led me to purchase this G1 rather than getting a replacement SK3

i'll keep faith the problems will be resolved SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON cause the phone is truely a nice piece

Re: With 10 pages of complaints and g1 horror stories...

The Aim is pretty crappy, and that's if your even able to use it. Many people have no clue who they're talking to because their own screen name is shown as the sender.

The voice recorder doesn't seem to work via email (only sms).

The headphone jack is just plain stupid.

The screen doesn't react to tilt unless you open the screen (not a problem, but i would suppose it may be irritating when a video player is developed).

The phone automatically closes (logs you out) of apps if you open too many at once.

I used my mem card from my sidekick where I had hundreds of pics neatly organized into folders, and they are now scattered and mixed.

The music player is not loud enough (I'm using Bose headphones, perhaps the stupid adaptor is the cause of this).

The back cover seems as if it is breakling everytime you take it off.

This is all off the top, and all things I've experienced since Monday - obviously there are many others.

Once again, I love the phone, but there are just so many little nuisances that have me thinking a newer version of the G1 will be released within a year. Everyone is looking for apps to take care of the shortcommings and errors, but I just feel as if the phone should have been shipped ready to rock.

Why the hell isn't there an app to take notes in?

Let me guess, someone will develop it?

...or maybe I'm just using my first non-sidekick phone since 2004 and I'm just having a little trouble adapting.

Re: With 10 pages of complaints and g1 horror stories...

wow all i hear is people saying it doesn't do this it doesn't do that!? americans, myself included, are so used to having things our way(hmmmm i remember a resteraunt had that on every comercial?). there for, when it is not that way, we cry cry and cry some more!! EVERYONE KNOWS THIS IS A COMPLETELY NEW OS AND PHONE!! i expected the problems to start coming in. BUT this phone is just like the iphone when it came out, and i know everyone remembers the iphone problem? did it not get fixed? except for the fact you can't send mms on it still lmao.

give it a lil time they will fix what needs to be fixed. to the people who are complaining about a2dp not available, videos have been on the internet for a lil while now about the phone. VIDEOS, ENTERVIEWS, BLOGS, SNAP SHOTS, ETC.... ETC.... so how can you be that shocked about it!? but hey, if you wanna get rid of a GOOD phone; for reasons that could be fixed? then thats your descision! hope everyone that likes it enjoys it and all the things that are going to be good w/ it!

Re: With 10 pages of complaints and g1 horror stories...

maybe i understand the concept of developers coming up with some of the apps etc... for the phone, since i am coming from windows mobile. almost 70% of my apps where from a developer or third party

Re: With 10 pages of complaints and g1 horror stories...

it's not about having everything, it's about doing the small things right... and doing them right the first time... for a phone that was supposed to be called "the dream", i really don't understand why i can't get on aim or write a note... i can scan the friggin windex bottle on my window cill and buy it from the phone, but i cant get on aim... give me a break... i dont think thats asking for too much... i got the g1 bcuz as a sidekick user, i was tempted to get an iphone for its superb web browsing, but figured the g1 is the best of both worlds. all the functionality of a sidekick, with the class and technology of an iphone, and much more... obviously that will be the case, but i guess i was just expecting that out of the box..

oh well,'m waiting almost 3 years now for the ps3 to live up to its hype, i guess waiting for the ota won't kill me... the aim thing is a total buzzkill tho... i probably wouldnt have made this post if i had aim... really pisses me off!!!

Re: With 10 pages of complaints and g1 horror stories...

I'd say to everyone, wait til tomorrow or the day after tomorrow for all the software and apps to settle in. The official releasing hasn't begun, yet.

You guys just got lucky, receiving them early.

And yes, I mean lucky, because you get to adapt to it longer. If your friend's getting it too, you get to show off haha.

If things still aren't the way they should be or up to par tomorrow/the day after, then I'd boo.

PROS AND CONS

I have been a big smart phone fan for 7 years now, recently upgraded to a BB Curve.  Got my G1 yesterday.

Here are my thoughts.......

PROS:

fast OS

Youtube works great, videos are not as crispy as I think they should be.

Email setup super easy

Camera/w Auto Focus  nice!!!!!

Sound quality on speaker phone very nice and clear(Music and voice)

Tiny trackball very useful

Map feature is so so

Screen looks and works just like the iPhone(without the gyroscopic sensor)  Very impressive copycat

Data speeds are very fast with EDGE since Denver does not have 3G with T-Mo yet(fastest of any EDGE product I've seen)

Google search works just like the real thing.  NICE

Maintains messaging threads, very cool.

Nice packaging with the retail box!!! HE HE HE

Very iPhone-ish!!(The closest thing to it so far)

Fairly intuitive.

CONS:

Heavy(should have put a higher capacity battery in for what this weighs)

More of a two handed device.

Short battery life if you use it as intended.  I had to charge it up after a couple hours of use after a full charge and bluetooth seems to kill it a lot faster.

The four hard buttons on the bottom are slippery feeling(too flush with the surface of the phone, found myself having to look at those buttons to make sure I was pressing the right one.)

Keyboard is very hard to use because the keys feel slippery and I found my eyes bouncing between the screen and keyboard.

(Backlighting is a joke on the keys)

Does not appear to be MS Outlook friendly.   This could be the death of this phone.  I had to export a CSV file and it appears the addresses do not import over.  Gotta have addresses?????? RIght?????

Even though the G1 has real web browsing, you have to scroll left and right to see a whole page in the browser.

Seems like when using the phone with one hand, my fingers accidentally touch the screen and activates other unwanted features when using the phone.

No virtual keyboard, so you always have to open the screen to reveal the keyboard.

Searching for contacts is annoying compared to the BB Curve.

When I imported my contacts to my Gmail account, it appears all my Company contacts show up as mystery phone numbers, you have to select that entry and it will show the name of the company in a super tiny font.

You must have a GMail account to do any kind of contact importing from any PIM software. Otherwise, you are limited to 250 entries(SIM CARD)

No software for easy syncing with computer.

They already have an over the air update on Oct 23rd to update the first round of bug fixes.(Not surprising)

GUI interface is sort of goofy with the MENU button for sub menus.

It already died on me after charging over night.(No power, no signs of life at all.  Very strange!!)

TIP:

If you need to do a hard reset, hold down the HOME and POWER button for 25 seconds till you see the exclamation point then release.

This will wipe out everything on the phone back to its default.  Your SIM card will retain your contacts, Micro SD will retain data as well.  This wipes out all contacts, call logs, any addition software downloaded,  etc.....

It will sync everything back with Gmail when you go through the setup process again.

Re: With 10 pages of complaints and g1 horror stories...

Hello all,

well i do understand your concerns and believe me, we have been working around the clock to resolve all the issues the phone has. Sorry it isnt perfect, but you must realize this has not been done before, so there is no precedent of a PDA where all the software and systems worked with no errors immediately after launch. I wish there was, that would be great, for everyone. until then, this is what actually exists in the real world.  this is the first android OS PDA ever in history, so it is going to take a little time to workout the kinks. Thanks for your patience and understanding while we work on these issues. There is already an OTA update scheduled for this phone, which will be sent and installed wirelessly starting on 10/23/08, so its just thursday. this should clear up most of its issues. Hope that it does, let us know if you have any further issues. thanks for choosing t-mobile!

Re: With 10 pages of complaints and g1 horror stories...

Well as some people said the great thing about this device is that it does get OTA updates so atleast you can just know the issue will sort of resolve itself. Meaning you don't have to go without your device to get the issue resolved. As far as the device having issues I have been dealing with computers/cell phones for a very long time and I can tell you that no matter how much testing a large team does they can not possibly replicate what like 50,000 customers will when they get the device.

One of the issues about closing out programs, it does this on purpose. As much of us PDA/Smart Phone users have seen a big issue has come in with the device freezing and crashing due to many programs being open. So the G1 was created so when you have 6 programs open then open a 7th one it closes the oldest program out. Now I am not sure about you but I know if I have gotten to my 7th program chances are I am done with the first one. If I am not I have switched back to it already in which it is now not the oldest program anymore and I don't have anything to worry about.

Be patient for developers and users to address issues. If we all stick together this will go smoothly. We all have something here that most new launches of products don't. We have a place where we as users can work with T-mobile employees to actually address issues. So let's just keep posting and find solutions!

Re: With 10 pages of complaints and g1 horror stories...

I totally understand... I guess I was just taken back by all of the people complaining or looking for help than there were people with ideas/positive things. Overall the phone is great, hopefuly aim is fixed in the ota and I'll shut up... until then, I'll try and limit my convos to 1 person at a time so i don't mistake the two.

WOW !! allot of complaining here. I have the G1 phone and I love it. Yes getting my contacts was a bit of a challenge but they are all there. Email is working fine. What I do not get is.... this a NEW concept and NEW OS and we all knew thia going in so WHY whine about it right away and make it so others think the phone is not worth it ?? Yes the battery life is not good.. I use WIFI at home / BT all the time and I also understand not every phone is PERECT .. I can name some phones Tmobile has launched that were nightmare. Just use the phone and then decide. REMEMBER this is a NEW PHONE  NEW OS ...

Re: With 10 pages of complaints and g1 horror stories...

I think your confusing complaints with people asking questions about their new phone. I'm coming for the dash.  Sorry bud, I've had the phone a day now, AND LOVEING IT.  All the complaints you had (no ear jack) were known long before you got your phone.  (my dash, and before that my MDA, all made by htc) had no ear jack.  So relax, go scan something with compare everywhere, sing along with tunewiki or if you want a real mindfreek, try shazam.  This is great!

Re: With 10 pages of complaints and g1 horror stories...

I agree withthe last post. What happens when you buy a brand new computer from Best Buy or Circuit City or where ever. You have to download new updates, drivers etc. This is just the facts of life when you use a computer, and yes this phone is a computer. As soon as they patch the new software most of the problems will be fixed. Does anyone on here play any games online, like MMO or RPG ?  what happens when Sony - the worst , patches a new update for the game your playing. You find all kinds of bugs in the game that either pisses you off or you use the bug to your advantage. These things happen and they will always happen.
