Hearing the same thing around the "Android" forums.

Apparently it is to fix the Email Notifications AND fix gps issues, and increase battery life.

lets hope this rolls out.. I'm still stuck at RC28

Re: Will, can you please confirm re: RC30

The first rule of updates is: you do not talk about updates
The second rule of updates is: you do NO... oh, who am I kidding.

RC30 started rolling out this afternoon. Its on an accelerated release and should be to nearly everyone over the next 3 to 4 days. (Great, there I went quoting time lines again... don't mind me)

RC30 is all-inclusive so if you have RC19, RC28, or RC29... RC30 will include the previous updates.

As for what RC30 does... Nothing you'll likely notice, but here's a hint:
Here. and Here.

Seems all Vortex (excuse me.  Lauren) does is post links to her blog.  I cannot vouch for the accuracy of anything you find on the blog.  I said it was just a hint.  A quick Google search should reveal more.

I hope someone more knowledgeable about this than I will swoop in and explain it.

Re: Will, can you please confirm re: RC30

RC30 does everything RC29 does, but also adds a fix to a "Security hole" in previous versions that was allowing people to "Jailbreak" their G1's to gain root access. An official statement from Google:

“We’ve been notified of this issue (Jailbreaking of Android) and have developed a fix. We’re currently working with our partners to push the fix out and updating the open source code base to reflect these changes.”

Why the hell would I want to install RC30 when RC29 gives me root access on my phone and lets me install apps to the SD card?

See!  I knew someone more 'in the know' than I would swoop in.  There you have it.

Now... who's next with the manual install directions?  Anyone?  Anyone?

In any event, RC30 should be out to everyone 'soon' (that better Odin? :0 )

You won't see many manual updates because the smart people know not to update to RC30... we want our G1's OPEN and able to be modified. Not locked down like other phones.

Google needs to put as much time into letting us save Apps to the SD card as they apparently are locking up the potential for jailbreaking..

whats up with that?

THEY KNOW we want this, and want it bad- heck we NEED it.

I'm just about out of room and I download apps sparingly and delete the ones i dont use often.

Re: Will, can you please confirm re: RC30

For those that are excited and want RC30: Don't worry, Google appears to want this out ASAP. Chances are everyone will be on RC30 by Monday.

For those that are upset by RC30: Sorry kids, you're pretty much SOL. However, I'm sure someone will figure out a way to Jailbreak RC30, and then Google will come out with RC31. ad infinum.

Just the nature of technology.

We can just reject the update... or for some of us... we can just find others way around like we have.

Re: Will, can you please confirm re: RC30

Someone will figure this one out and jailbreak it again. They should of just had the option of just letting the apps from the Market download to SD. I hope i get this update because i never got any updates OTA and had to do a manual install from SD.
