So, I'm about to sign up for my data plan, but from the way everything is worded it looks like they're bundling emails in with the 400 messages in the 24.99 plan..is that true?

Well, like any good forum user, I should have searched BEFORE I posted..

I googled it and found two posts(both are deleted, strangely enough..had to view them through google cache) that say that emails are NOT counted as the 400 messages...tmo really needs to change the wording on that plan..

But just to put my mind at ease, can anyone confirm?

Confirmed; email should not count against your 400 SMS Messages.  emails (GMail, POP3 and IMAP) are all sent through the Web.

It is also my understaning that GMail Talk and AOL (also throug GMail) messages are not counted against the Messages- but Yahoo and MSN messages do count as SMS messages...

check dis out... i got kicked off of AIM because of insufficient funds(I got a Flex Account).  I called t-mobile cuz its impossible for me to use 4oo text messages in 3 days. I really dont send text messages out like that. Anyways i was told that using AIM instant messaging counts for texts. what da hell is that about. So I upgraded! 2 the unlimited plan $34.99...Did i have a choice?

i knOw AIM is a feature on the phone i didnt knOw that I.M's counts for text messaging, i thought it was 2 didferent things. whateva, they played me!

Here is what I seem to have found:

ALL IM SERVICES, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF GOOGLE TALK, use TEXT MESSAGES when sending IM's through the official gtalk android app. They WILL count towards your 400 messages..

EMAIL, Websurfing, etc, WILL NOT count towards your 400 messages.

If any of this is wrong, let me know.

Everything you have mention is correct, but when i first heard it, i was like i cant believe that. On the sidekick were offered a feature that has the text messaging totally seperate from the I.M's...i dont know y they decided now to change the way thats set up on the G1. RIGHT? thanks

Is there a way that i can chat with aol/aim users threw google talk?

I had to do the same thing, upgrade because my sopposedly 400 included text mess also include IM in everything other than google talk. Not what I was told at the store when I signed up. Very upset called TM cs and they back tracked my unlimited plan to when I started my service so that I wouldn't have any additional charges.

im was always including in your text messing bundle this is nothing new why is everyone so surprise this have been like this since I have been with tmobile for about four years now

Because it depends on the phone and IM program you are using. The blackberries that tmo sells have SEVERAL options for DATA ONLY(won't use txt) IM clients. I'm using an unlocked iphone with beejive IM right now on TMO's network, and it uses data. It all depends.

There are also a couple programs out for the G1 that use data instead of txts..meebo, and IM+

wait.... i knew when i had the sidekick that i.m's, emailing, text messaging, and web are including. wat im stating is that when you send 1 i.m its deducting from the 400 texts they offer you in the G1 bungle. whether your texting to instant messaging its all deducted dats B.S.....I talk to hundred people on AIM so in a matter of 2 days i was kicked off. With the sidekick feature you were just signed off of AIM all together if u didnt pay ur bill...........Get it???? thats y im so **bleep** confused!
